THERAPIST, COACH & FACILITATOR
Almetta Pitts, MSW, LICSWA (she/they)
Founder & Holistic Mental Health Therapist, Soma Rooted Wellness
(Virtual Therapy for WA Residents Only)
I’m a Black womxn therapist and the founder of Soma Rooted Wellness, a virtual practice rooted in land acknowledgement + land sovereignty, ancestral wisdom, and collective care. Because my work is virtual, it always takes place on Native, Indigenous, and First People’s territories—this truth grounds every space I hold. Healing is not separate from land, history, or ongoing resistance.
I offer care through a decolonizing lens that centers:
✨ Somatic, body-based healing
✨ Trauma-informed collective care
✨ The unlearning of colonial narratives around wellness
As a somatic abolitionist, I invite people to reconnect with their bodies, their lineages, and their inherent worth—beyond what systems have conditioned us to believe. I support those navigating grief, burnout, racialized trauma, and the longing to feel fully human again.
Whether you're returning to yourself or reimagining what healing can look like, you are welcome here.
This work is not about perfection—it’s about presence.
My Approach to Therapy
My therapeutic work draws from a blend of western clinical modalities and ancestral, body-centered practices rooted in collective care and decolonized healing.
Westernized modalities I integrate include:
Talk Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Somatic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Harm-Reduction Therapy, Person-Centered Wellness, Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)-Centered Support, Psychodynamic Therapy and I am a certified Brainspotting Practitioner.
I engage in the daily, imperfect practice of decolonizing my own life through my mind, body, and spirit. This means I hold a critical awareness of both the benefits and the harms of traditional clinical models. That awareness informs my commitment to intersectional, transformative, culturally rooted approaches.
And—I'm actively unlearning, too.
I bring more than a decade of experience in:
Trauma-informed therapy + somatic abolitionist healing
Mindfulness-based stress reduction and nervous system care
Race-based trauma and identity reclamation + LGBTQIA2S+ wellness
Restorative + transformative justice, grief rituals, and
Consulting for organizations seeking mental health education, training and advocacy + team and leadership wellness
I also offer therapeutic support for those navigating expat life, migration transitions, and repatriation, military/veterans wellness, honoring the layered grief, identity shifts, and cultural dislocation/historical loss that often accompany global movement.
